Elizabeth Wood – Center Director/ Queensbury 1Teacher
My name is Elizabeth Wood. I attended Regis College from 1994-1998 and received my Bachelor’s degree in a double major of Psychology and Education. I began my teaching career in my early twenties as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. At the age of 26 and expecting my first child, I decided to embark on a new chapter and decided to become a Stay at Home Parent. I enjoyed this rewarding opportunity for 10 years. Also, during this time I decided to complete my Master’s in Education via an online program through the University of New England. Upon returning to the workplace in 2013, I began substitute teaching for many local school districts. In 2016, I was hired by Warren County Head Start. I am currently the teacher in the Queensbury 1 classroom. Besides teaching, I enjoy exercising, watching crime shows and spending time with my family and pets.
Avaughn Butchino – Queensbury 1 Asst. Teacher
Hello, my name is Avaughn Butchino. I have been working as an Assistant Teacher at the Queensbury center for a little over a year. I’ve been working with children for about 4 years now, prior to Head Start I worked at Prospect and North Country Academy. I graduated from ACC with my associates in Liberal Arts and Science. I love taking walks with my family and enjoy being out in the warm or cold weather whether it would be sledding with my daughter in the winter, smores in the fall, or swimming in our pool in the spring and summer. I love doing things with my family and love being outside with them.
Stella Gangsaa – Queensbury 1 Classroom Aide
Hi, my name is Stella, I have been working as an Classroom Aide at the Queensbury center for 2 years. I attended Herkimer Community College and have an Associate’s degree in Hospitality. I worked as a front desk attendant at two different hotels in lake George from 2011-2015. In 2015 my youngest was born and my husband and I chose to have me stay home full time with our 2-year-old and newborn. When my daughter turned 3, she started at Head Start. I volunteered as much as I could while she was in the program for over 2 years and at that point, I realized I wanted to work with children. My son started home based Head Start when he was around age 2. When he turned 3, he began Head Start in the Queensbury center and I applied for the Classroom Aide position. I got a call for an interview and shortly after I was offered a long-term position in the Queensbury center, the next year a full-time position became available also in the Queensbury center and I took It. I chose to be with Head Start the last 2 years and will continue because my children are young 7 and 5 and this job keeps me on their schedule while allowing me to do all the things I always imagined doing as a mom.
